Columbia Bottom Conservation Area • Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Started out with the SLAS group at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area and finished at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary.

3/28 St. Charles County

Hwy H and 94 St. Charles County

I received an email at 2:27pm noting a Black-necked Stilt was seen at Hwy H and 94 in St. Charles County and was out the door in no time. It wasn't until 5:32 that I found the Stilt. (Looks like I didn't set camera to DLST so all photos show one hour earlier.)

3/20 SLAS trip to Horseshoe Lake

Horseshoe Lake Illinois

Audubon Society of St. Louis's 3-20-2010 trip to Horseshoe Lake started at the State Park where thousands of ducks, mainly Ruddy and Scaup sp. were viewed out in the lake.

Bufflehead landing by Ruddy Ducks and Scaup Common Goldeneye Lesser Scaup Scaup sp. Green-winged Teal Green-winged Teal Green-winged Teal Northern Shoveler Lesser Scaup Canada and Greater White-fronted Geese Ring-necked Ducks Common Goldeneye

The group stopped at a grassy field on the way to Bend Road to find some sparrows. The only ones found were some Savannah Sparrows and a few Meadowlarks. Also seen in the distance were some gulls, an American Kestrel, Northern Harrier and a Red-tailed Hawk.
