2/05 Louisiana Birding Day 15 Holley Beach and East

Paul and Fran Bauer and Lois and I traveled to the Lower Rio Grande Valley the end of January
to see many birds that I have never seen. We returned along the gulf though lower Louisiana.

Day 15 2010-02-05: Louisiana - Holley Beach and to the East

After the enormous rain yesterday we headed south to the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. We were worried that there might be some flooded roads, didn't find any though and stopped at the Sabine NWR to walk the boardwalk. We then headed east along the shore and found some terns feeding at one of the bridges. Flying down the highway I spotted an Anhinga along the side. Quick stop and we got some photos. We then proceeded east and turned north where we found many birds in some flooded fields at Marina Rd and Hwy 82 Pecan Island Area. Many Ibis, Stilts and a huge flock of Fulvous Whistling-Ducks.
